After various vagaries, we finally have the debut EP of French & Basque band Etxegiña, a project launched two years ago by Waldo Losada (Acedia Mundi, ex-Atavisma). Four tracks that pay a sincere homage to the odyssey lived by his ancestor Ciriaco Urigüen and the thousands of Spanish folks that suffered during the Spanish Civil War and the harsh repression of Franco’s dictatorship.

Taking inspiration in the life of anarchist journalist Eduardo de Guzmán and his historical testimony, Etxegiña tell the grandiose and desolate stories of the 1930’s in Spain. To express said tumultuous past the band has chosen a blend of Epic & Melodic Black Metal as their vessel; a choice that captivates perfectly the emotions one can feel when reading the lyrics. From the attack of the military barracks of “La Montaña” by the people of Madrid to the concentration camp of Albatera, Etxegiña stitch a red thread that links our present with Spain’s most recent and tragic History.

Four tracks condensed in about 20 minutes of high quality Melodic Black Metal filled with melancholy and nostalgia. In this record, Waldo is helped by Titouan Le Gal on guitars (Epectase, Acedia Mundi) and Prosper Duffours on drums (Insolvency). This digipack edition limited to 300 copies includes an 8-page booklet. The artwork and layout were designed by German artist Hagiophobic and reference the “Mirador de la Memoria”.
